Smiths are fully aware of the environmental impacts that quarrying can create. In recognition of this we have in place a companywide Environmental Management System (EMS). There are many benefits from having an EMS, which include:
- Helping a business understand & assess its impacts on the environment;
- Establish environmental commitments through an Environmental Policy Statement;
- Putting in place measures to ensure these impacts are mitigated;
- Set environmental objectives to ensure continual improvement;
- Identify opportunities to enhance the local environment.
Smiths EMS is accredited to a recognised international standard called ISO 14001:2015. Please see link for a copy of the certification. We use British Standards Institution (BSI) who are UKAS accredited as our auditing and certification body. Smiths receive an annual audit to ensure that the requirements of the standard are being met.
